EA

I am making an effort to integrate effective altruism topics into my research and find ways to use my research expertise to support the EA community.

Service:

I am a trustee at the Centre for Enabling EA Learning and Research

I am on the audit committee of the Berkeley Existential Risk Initiative.

EA-Aligned Research:

In "Opening the Black Box of Private Foundation Grantmaking", we are seeking to understand how the grantmaking process is conducted in large family foundations, including how they use accounting & effectiveness information, and who grantmakers feel accountable to. Our study is exploratory in nature, and we hope to generate a large number of insights into the private foundation grantmaking process, which aligns with the Improving Institutional Decision Making cause area of EA. My hope is that increasing our understanding of how decision making currently works in private foundations will help organizations find new ways to improve decision making broadly.

Non-Research EA Projects:

Identifying tractable US private foundations using 990-PF data.

I am interested in advising/supporting EA organizations as a board member or advisor. Please feel free to contact me if you think my expertise would be of use to your organization/project.
